OVERVIEW

Beacon is a mobile app designed to bring communities together to help lost, found, and vulnerable animals.Whether you're a pet owner, foster volunteer, or simply an animal lover, Beacon gives you the tools to make a real difference. Quickly post lost or found pets, receive instant alerts in your area, and connect with local shelters and fosters.

With an intuitive interface and real-time updates, Beacon empowers users to act fast, spread awareness, and reunite pets with their families. The app also supports adoption listings and foster coordination, creating a full-circle solution for animal care and rescue.

Problem / Sitemap

Every year, thousands of pets go missing or end up in shelters without a way to reconnect with their families. Local communities often lack a centralized, real-time platform to report lost or found animals, coordinate foster care, or promote adoptions. Social media posts get buried, shelters are overwhelmed, and pet owners feel helpless.

Reflection

Designing Beacon allowed me to explore how digital tools can strengthen real-world community connections. One of the biggest challenges was creating an experience that feels urgent and responsive — while still being compassionate and approachable. I focused on designing intuitive flows for posting lost or found pets, and features that support fast communication between pet owners, foster volunteers, and shelters. Building with empathy was key: I had to consider the emotional state of users who may be scared or stressed while using the app.

This project helped me grow not only in UI design but also in understanding how to build for trust and collaboration. I learned to balance clear visual hierarchy with emotionally supportive design — through soft visuals, calming colors, and a mascot-led interface. If I were to take Beacon further, I’d explore real-time alerts, multi-language support, and deeper integration with local animal rescue services. Ultimately, this project reminded me that design has the power to create impact beyond the screen by helping both people and animals in need.
